That technique works well for (e.g.) noisy microcassette recordings, where the noise floor might only be 20 db below the loudest sounds on the tape.

Select the silent part of your audio clip so it’s just noise.
Now select and highlight all the audio you wish to remove the background noise from, go to the effects menu and select noise removal in the menu.

First, adjust noise reduction by typing in the number 150.
100 for level reduction 30 for gate threshold 75 for attack/decay if this setting failed to reduce the echo, gradually increase the gate threshold.
This means you can analyse the audio section and see exactly which frequencies you need removing.
If the sound for your video is a little on the noisy side, you can clean it up using the free audio editing app audacity.
Go to the effects menu and scroll down to the noise removal tab and click.
You can measure noise floor (room tone) in audacity by recording your environment without extrinsic noises.
You will then get a pop up asking you to “get noise profile”.
Try recording very close to the mic.
When recording noise floor make sure there are no unusual background noises and keep your audio recording levels at the usual settings.
Just click and drag your mouse from the start to the end of the section and click on the effect option to choose the noise reduction within audacity.
Once you have downloaded audacity create a new file then click file > import and select the recording you are looking to reduce the background noise on.
You can get closer but then you will have to deal with the proximity effect, which may or may not be too much bottom end.
